Inspiration

The game Matchmaker was inspired by classic titles like “Where’s Waldo?” and similar matching/ iSpy-esque games. Using the theme of connection, we thought having to find a match or couple in a crowd of bustling people would be a fun and interesting task, especially when backed up with good assets and art direction. It tests not only your skills of connecting the picture to the person, but to connect two people searching for each other through a sea of chaos.

What it does

Find match(es) in a vibrant bustling crowd, searching to unite two separated lovers. The game randomly chooses two lovers from a pool of options, randomly distributes the crowd, and sends you in to search.

How we built it

Created in Unity 6.0 using Krita for art, and free online sources for sounds.

Challenges we ran into

Joining the GameJam a day late did hinder our progress a bit, causing us to lower scope and make better use of our time. We luckily didn't run into any major issues due to the simplicity of the game.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a (mostly) polished and complete game in under 12 hours was really exciting and new for us, and we're super proud of the smooth animations, clean code, and extensibility of the game.

What we learned

Preparation does help, in the time wasted yesterday, we we're able to plan out the game's mechanics and goals before diving into development, giving us a clear path forward. I've gained a better understanding of Unity's UI mechanics, and AJ was able to learn how to implement sounds into the project.

What's next for Matchmaker

We are posting the game on itch.io, with plans to publish to Steam (especially if we we're to win money). We talked about future plans for other game modes and outfits if development were to continue.
